Re: Run a VIN?

Even if it did not come stock with remote start, it may be someting the dealer can program in with their tech 2. A lot of newer GM cars are like that nowadays.

Re: Run a VIN?

The GM RPO code for remote keyless entry with the remote start is AP3 so check the SPID label which I am assuming is still located in the trunk area.

For later model/generation Grand Prixs to support remote start you need the keyfob with the remote start button, a PCM module that supports it and the uplevel DIC since remote start options are programmed in for user control and status readout. Not sure about the G6 GT though.

i could check that. on the G6 its in the glovebox. So just look for AP3? i heard that alot of the newer cars are pre-wired for remote start. I guess i could just check with the dealer. i was just thinking it would be a perfect early Xmas present. When we bought the car, for some reason the original key fobs were missing, so they gave us 2 new ones which do not have the remote start button. i was just wondering if by any chance the car had it

yeah, i did sell my GTX. My dad was getting sick of it sitting in his garage back up in MI and i have no room for it at my apartment her in WI. A guy from Houghton MI bought it off from me. Didnt really cry when i watched it go...but i was one of them guys that stood at the end of the driveway and watched it go away til it disapeared. overall I'm pretty happy i sold it though. guy gave me more than what i expected for it. $10,500, not too bad for a 2000 taking some of that money, and I'm gonna build up the GT a bit.

Wow, that's not bad at all! Are you going to put an S/C'er on your GT?

yup, i sure am. A guy on one of the other forums convinced me into trying the SS M90 Kit from ZZP. so i ordered that on Saturday along with a ported M90, downpipe, and a few other goodies and support mods. It will be my winter project.

AP3 is the standard GM RPO code for all. My GXP has the remote start feature and my SPID label says AP3. Also, keep in mind the factory remote keyless entry system with remote start is an extended range system and the RCDLR module may have to be upgraded in addition to getting the right keyfob. I can remote start from hundreds of feet away.

Also, there are two way keyless entry systems you can add as aftermarket. There are kits available for the G6. Not 100% sure but I think the G6 GXP model should have the AP3 option as standard equipment. I compared my keyfob with one from a '08 G6 GXP and they look similar. 5 button type.

yeah, i saw a few kits online. the only thing i am worried about it voiding the warrenty. Also, I'm pretty sure remote start was a standard option on the GXP, but this is a GT

Re: Run a VIN?

If your impala's remote start is from the factory, there may be a way to increase the distance on your factory key fob. I thought I read that somewhere... I will see if I can find it. Otherwise a fresh battery always helps extend the range a little.

Sorry to hear about the GTX, but you did get a nice amount for it. On the SS M90, make sure you read everything. There are a lot of parts you need that you have to read farther down to see. I think myself I would just do a complete top swap. I think you can get a whole top swap kit from ed morad for 500 or so shipped.

yeah, i tried replacing the battery and it doesnt make a difference. i brought it to the dealer multiple times, and they try and tell me it works just fine.

yeah, I've been contemplating the M90 kit option...and finally decided to go that route. I know there are a few extras required...and have all the bases covered. Lets just hope the install goes smoothly. I'm gonna take my time with this car, and build it the right way. I've talked to a few people that have purchased the kit and they all say it actually works pretty well. i already did the whole top swap gig, and its a pain in the you know what. required alot of fine tunes and all that good stuff when i was finally completed. which by the way...the SE is up for sale too
