Can't shift gears? - PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

I bought a Audi TT 1.8T Quattro year 2000 manual.

Two nights ago, I started my car and couldn't put it in gear.
I can push really hard up against first gear and the car will weakly move forward. I can put the car in gear when it's turned off but then I can't start it.

The car worked perfectly fine the whole day and everyday before this.
The only difference this night was the sudden drop in temperature from 30 celsius to 13. But this still isn't very cold. It's now 25 and it still doesn't start.

Anyone have any clue what's happened?
