Lining up timing marks 1995 4.6 L

I've got a stupid question, better than nothing, lol. I am looking at the timing set up on a 1995 4.6 L. The engine is in time, but the marks have no real pattern when the engine is at TDC. What's the procedure for lining one up? I will get some pictures today, got the cover off and looking right the gears. I'm just trying to learn how to set one up. This engine is junk, It's the one out of that bird with the bad rod. The last motor swap I did. Plenty of good parts left on it if any one needs any thing.
