I have a '71 T-37 with a 350 engine. What transmission is in the car?

Automatic or manual transmission?

If it's an auto, you probably have a Turbo Hydramatic 350. But you might have a THM 400.
You should get underneath and look at the shape of the transmission pan to positively identify it.

According to my research, T-37 was discontinued after the '71 model year, and "LeMans GT" replaced it. Are we CERTAIN it's a '73? Can't find ANY reference to one.

An chance you have a pic you can post? I'm quite interested in this subject!

Sorry, it is a '71. It's the TH-350. Thank to all, especially MagicRat. Used the link to determine the pan shape. It is my son-in-laws car (at my house) he inherited from his aunt. The engine overheated and he has not driven it for about six years. He did say the trans. was slipping before it overheated. Thanks again.

About one-third of the time, I have been able to fix a slipping transmission by doing this: remove the transmission pan and clean it out. Replace the transmission filter and reinstall the pan with a new gasket.

Add new trans fluid, about 8 liters. Then disconnect the transmission cooler return line at the transmission (I think it's the lower one, not sure). Then start the engine and allow about 3 liters of fluid to pump out. Reconnect the line and check the fluid level.

This does not always work but it's much cheaper than rebuilding the transmission.
