Going back to the one all began with: Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0
Hey folks,
I havenīt posted any of my progress in awhile. But work was demanding and I also needed to look for a nice project to come up with. The BMW M1 and the Porsche 935 are still in the pipeline as well as the BMW 320i. The following project was the first I posted on automotiveforums.com. Back then it was painted purple with a 70īs brownish interior. One comment was that "the paint [was] seethrough and that the interior [was] obviously painted with a brush". Having built numerous other models I was unpleased how this one looked in my shelf. So I took out the cleaning tools and took of the purple from the body and cleaned the interior. I wanted to repaint this kit with a color that it was available with when it was in production. I went with this: ![]() It is some sort of Baby Blue with gold "Carrera" stripes and golden wheels. With this project I wanted to enhance my painting skills. All the steps were taken carefully and planned ahead (something I sometimes dind not do in the past). - First I removed the paint that was still on the body using 220-grid-paper - Then I put on the first coat of greay Tamiya primer - After that the body was cleaned with 400-grid-paper - Three coats of flat white base (automotive spray can) were applied - The body was then cleaned with 1000-, 1500- and 2000-grid paper - Three coats of "Baby Blue" were applied and afterwards the body was cleaned using 2000- and 3000 grid-paper as well some sanding sticks. Now I applied the "Carrera"-side stripes. I got these decals from ebay.de. They are of a nice quality - but way to short. So I needed to add golden decal parts from other prints of this decals sheet. For clear coating I used Mr. Gunze To Coat (B-501). I wanted to go for a safe run on these decals as I ruined my last decal jobs with clear coats that were too aggressive. This is what I have so far (pictures are blue on blue - please beware if you canīt take a blue screen ):![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When the body is all dry it will be polishing with Tamiya products. I also need to add the body panel wash and the flat black window trim. Another step to completion will be the paintig of the other body parts. These have been prepared using the steps mentioned above. Notice that I cut out the hideous plastic mesh Fujimi put into the front grill. ![]() ![]() The wheels are already finished. They seem to be the only parts I can take from the build a couple of years ago. I only added center nuts decals from the ebay-sheet. ![]() The interiour will be all black with an aluminium roll cage. Nothing crazy added. Right now, Iīm awaiting a spar part delivery from hlj.com with new shock since the old ones can not be reused. Thanks for looking - comments and questions are welcome. Robert

Great recovery, if i was you i would have sprayed all the parts together. Now its going to be harder to achieve the same exact results. Good luck, i like the baby blue.

Hi Robert,
looks promising. I wouldnīt mind for new shocks. If all wheels will be fixed on the finished model, they canīt be seen. Otherwise, these ones http://www.scaleproduction.de/produc...487fabea577a7a might be get easier than ordering from Japan ;-)

Thank you for your kind words.

I needed to get me another set of head lamps anyway since I lost one while removing the paint. HLJ mailed a couple of days ago that they sent all the demanded parts. I just need to sit and wait for them. Cheers Robert

There is the risk that I add these parts after vleaning and polishing and eventually the fitment wonīt be the same anymore. This can lead to the problem of parts showing that are (un)painted or in a way that make you see differences. Iīm quite confident to achieve the same tone of color. The following pictures show the step inbetween painting and finishing the model. I have cleaned and polished the body. It is now prepared for getting the window trim painted and the panel line wash. Iīm just waiting for some cleaning tools and fine sanding paper. Then I will be able to finished that hoods and bumpers as well. Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I even found a black background for the pictures! Robert

Great restoration so far, the colour looks really nice. I have just aquired one of these too and I think I will at least glue on the front and rear bumpers before painting to avoid any dangers of smearing glue onto finished paintwork due to my cack handedness!
