Question Ignition Coil

Howdy,

I just replaced the spark plugs and plug wires a few days ago on my 2000 Park Avenue. As I was replacing the plug wires I found rust on the number one coil terminal. I cleaned it up with fine sand paper and added dielectric tune-up grease to the terminal and spark plug wire connection.

Since this was the number one coil terminal at the front of the engine could this of been moisture that caused the rust? Or is this a sign of a bad coil? If the coil needs replaced should I get another Delco Coil or would a aftermarket coil be okay.

I would like to say that the car seems to run okay.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Ignition Coil

Probably would be fine. Does it still has blue arc when it fires? If it orange the coil pack is bad. I replaced one with a duralast (autozone) brand coil pack for $21 about 2 years ago and it's still fine.

Re: Ignition Coil

Usually, rust on the coil terminal is the result of a loose fitting terminal in the wire boot which can cause arching. I had the same problem with ACDelco wires after pulling them off and putting them back on a few times. The solution for me was; MSD wires, which have a much better gripping terminal. No rusty terminals since!
