2000windstar rear heat

i saw it somewhere but cant find it. i have front heat real well but when i turn rear heat on all it does is blow cold. a lil help please. we already had snow yesturday and today here in erie pa. thanks all.... allen

It could be the rear blend door actuator who is faulty or the rear heater core that is clogged. Or if the coolant level is low, you may have air bubble in the rear heater core lines.

To diagnose the problem, it's easy.
1) Check the collant level (when engine is cool), of course. If it's good, do that:
2) In an interior parking, turn the A/C at max to the rear (coldest position) for 1 minute. It should be very cold at rear. Then turn in to the warmer postion. If it doesn't make any difference, then it's a problem with the rear blend door actuator. If it's less cold, it's the rear heater core that is clogged.

ok just in case how would you fix the door actuator if thats the problem?
how would you unclogg the rear heater core?
i know the antifreeze is good i just put new in. front was blowing cool for awhile so i know im good with the antifreeze

That's a very hard job. I'm not sure for the 2000, but in the 98 the rear unit is located behind the left rear left trim panel (just behind the driver belt). Everything is located there: rear heater core, actuator, evaporator...

You need to remove the trim. I recommend you to remove the left captain seat.

If you want to clean the core:
* Drain all the coolant first.
* Then raise the van on jackstands to access the hose under the mid of the vehicle.
* Remove the bolt that retain the hose bracket to the body.
* Detach the heater core hose from the tube. You expect seeing coolant draining.
* Remove the screws retaining the ducts to the to the heater core, then remove the mounting screws and remove the unit assembly.
* Then remove the screw retaining the core to the assembly, then finally remove the core.
* After cleaning the core with air spray, install everything back in reverse of the removal.
* Refill the cooling system.

The electric blend door actuator is located between the air duct and the blower motor. It's connected to an electric cable. It's connected to a door between the heater core and evaporator. Remove the connector, then unscrew the actuator. You replace it if it's faulty.

Oh no! I thought that it was similar in the 2000, I just check in the 2000 manual, It's different. The unit is behind the left rear wheel wall. I forget that is a left sliding door on this model.

So it's same thing as above, except that it's a little bit behind. So you must remove the rear seat bench and rear left panel instead.
