Trans will not shift into reverse

2002 Sunfire 2.2 engine 5 speed manual 89,ooo miles. I cannot shift into reverse. Car shifts very good in all other gears. When I try to pull the shifter into revese it just will not move. It does not make any noise, just will not engage reverse. Help & Thanks

Re: Trans will not shift into reverse

Check the cables and bracket, make sure nothing came loose. Will it go into reverse with the engine off? If not, I'd try popping the shifter cables off and see if you can move it into reverse by moving the levers on the transaxle. If you can, you probably just need to adjust the cables. Do a search for it, I'm pretty sure Cody wrote a step-by-step how-to on it.
