amp

has anyone ever heard anything about this amp? If its any good or not. And i'm not sure if its too big for my subs or not. The reason im asking is that my buddy is sellin his for cheap. I dont need five channels but might as well get it for the price. Could sumone tell me if this amp is too big for two 12"JL W0's, their rated at 125 watts rms, i dunno what the max wattage is. http://mobileaudio.boom.ru/pictures/...mps/kac859.htm
thnx

well i don't know how the 5 channel thing is going to work out, never messed with an amp with 5 channels. But your subs will be able to handle it. I had 2 12" w0's that were getting about 250 watts each with no problem. I don't know exactly what they were getting, never had that tested, but I had a 120 watt @ 4ohm load Planet Audio amp running at a 2 ohm load and pushing those subs no problem.

Wish I could offer a little more help with the amp, but don't know much about 5 channel amps. Seems more like a normal speaker amp, not a sub amp.

i don't think you should get it. It's supposed to be you use 4 channels for your coaxial/component speakers and the one dedicated channel for your sub. how much is it going for, i didn't see a price on the site. If you want a decent amp, get a Kenwood 729S amp...they're 100x2 4 ohm stereo and they are alright units. I had one powering 1 pioneer sub and it got the job done, then i got an audiobahn sub and it was lacking so i decided to go with an audiobahn amp and 1 more sub

alright thats good to know its not too big, but i still dunno bout the five channels, like here are the specs
Power Ratings

Bridged Power Output at 14.4V (1kHz, 0.8% THD): 120 Watts x 2
Maximum Output Power (Bridged): 240 Watts x 2 + 240 Watts x 1
Power Output at 2 Ohms, at 14.4V (1kHz, 0.8% THD): 60 Watts x 4 + 150 Watts x 1 (at 100Hz)
Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 14.4V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% THD): 40 Watts x 4 + 120 Watts x 1 (20Hz - 200Hz)

the only thing i don't get is if that 1 sub channel acts as like a mono block so that it can handle 2 ohms mono or what...so confusing

you don't even need a 4 channel, if you just want to power your subs get a 2 channel amp

BTW are those JL's DVC or SVC?

i think the W0's are SVC, so look for an amp that is about 125 x 2 watts rms at 4 ohms like this would be perfecthttp://www.ikesound.com/1024.htm

EDIT: damn the link doesn't take you straight there...anyways, go to pioneer and look for the GMX-972 amp. BTW When you click on pioneer if it asks if you want to d/l some language pack just click cancel

yea, a 2 channel amp will do just fine for 1-2 Single Voice Coil Subs. When you look for an amp for them, look at the bridged X 1 rating. Around 300 X 1 @ 4 ohms will be good for those SVC subs, or 500 X 1 @ 2 ohms, because the amp will be running at a 2 ohm load if you hook the subs up in parellel.

Yes, a DVC sub has 2 + and 2 -. mine was just a SVC, so yours should be able to handle more than mine did. So you probably need to get a 4 channel amp for both of the subs.

and dont be fooled by the dvc and svc thing, dvc subs, no matter what anyone else sais are not(not by themselves anyway) twice as loud as a svc sub, yes they are a little louder and can handle more power, but they were designed for lower impedences, and to make it easier to wire different combinations and still be able to get the ohms you want

oh god, the whole DVC is twice as loud as a SVC is haunting me, damn everyone took that the wrong way. I did not mean that a DVC IS TWICE AS LOUD AS A SVC, i meant that it was almost twice as loud, mainly because of the reasons you stated, because you can more easily mess with the combination of wiring it.
