2001 Expedition P0308

Started running rough a couple days ago, today got a flashing CEL then on my way to Autozone, engine became increasingly rough. Pulled code "P0308 cylinder 8 misfire."

I plan on pulling the plug, checking, the wire and coil.

Any additional help would be appreciated.

which one is cylinder #8 (I'm assuming it is the hardest to get to)

Re: 2001 Expedition P0308

It is on the driver's side, the back one and it is a pain to get to thanks to Ford's bad engineering. The #8 coil is bad since it has the Coil over Plug ignition system and could need a tune up at the same. Most parts stores stock the coils since they do go bad.

Re: 2001 Expedition P0308

thanks, just pulled the plug and yes it was a pain to get to. The plug electrode is almost gone and the gap was at 0.70. I'm on way to pick up plugs, if that doesn't fix it I'll try replacing the coil.

Thanks

Replace the #8 coil too,I agree with them being a pain.If there is a hard way to do things,Ford has it.

Re: 2001 Expedition P0308

Just switch the coil with another cylinder. If the misfire has moved to the cylinder you swapped coils with, replace that, too. Otherwise don't fix it if it ain't broken. And IF you do get a new one, use only Motorcraft coils. The Accels and other off brands at Autozone and online do not last very well.
