Alternator Problem
I ahve been through 2 alternators (rebuilt) in the last year.......is this a recurring problem with these cars (89 civic SI) or is there something else causing this......should I replace it with a new one....tks for your help

everytime your alternator has gone out, have you had it tested to see what was wrong with the alternator? Mine went out a little while ago too, and my rebuilt one went out a day after i installed it, ended up that they gave me a bad one, it had a bad diode. Keep your receipts too, you should be able to get an alternator for free under the warranty.

Who are you buying alternators from? Some of the "rebuilt" stuff out there is crap . Try NAPA. It won't be cheap but their stuff is good quality.

I have a friends with a similar problem, the car goes through about 2-3 alternators a year. I haven't spent enough time on it to find the problem.
