Headlight conversion

Can I change my mechanical headlights on my 91 vr4 to those from a stealth or a later year vr4? What all would be envolved?

Re: Headlight conversion

Lots of work.

You need hood, headlights, front bumper cover, headlight buckets and rad support, 2g headlight wiring harness and time.

Its not something a novice should undertake.

Re: Headlight conversion

I good with the mechanics i work at a garge for a couple years and ran it for a couple more
it's just that all my work was direct fit no real custom work
I just wanted to weigh it out and know everything I will need as opposed to started the project and then keep coming across more things I wold need
I am planning on changing the hood and front bumper out but what about the fenders looks like they would have to be change out aswell

Re: Headlight conversion

Fenders are identical from 91-99 so no you wont need to change those.

The biggest thing with the conversion is cutting the spot welds and removeing the original headlight buckets/core support, then welding the new one in.

After that everything basically bolts right up.

If you are serious about it I have a 2nd gen headlight bucket/core support I pulled from a 95 parts car. $150 plus shipping. I also have a set of 94 Glass Stealth headlights for $450 shipped. If you feel like drving 3 1/2 hours to my place I will sell you the headlights, the core support, and even throw in a set of headlight harnesses for $550.

Re: Headlight conversion

i read somewhere that you can use the 1g harness. you do have to rewire it but it tells you how. ill try to find it and post it up.

Re: Headlight conversion

You have to use a 2g harness. 1g headlights have one 3 wire plug in per side. 2g headlights have two 2 wire harnesses per side.

Srry to take so long to respond I'm defnitly serious about doing it
it's just when I say just bought I mean I just bought last wenseday at 11:30pm drove it from manasas to my moms house in columbia and then didn't see it again til Sunday when i got Togo for a real drive
it needs some work before it sees the road nothing serious though
all fluids changed, rear brakes, driver outer tie rod, passenger strut, aero wing doesn't work, and exhaust switch is in two peices
interior is a mess
not to mention wanted to consider my option when I reserch prior to buying I was looking at a 1st gen TT
good price led me to this but after lookin into it I would be interested in the parts but not the drive
probally be a week or so til I got the money together but what would they cost shipped to 21045

Re: Headlight conversion

I'd have to figure out what shipping would be on the core support before I could give you a full shipped price.

Re: Headlight conversion

Just be sure you get a correlating bumper and turn signals. the stealth headlights work with a 99 3000GT front bumper, and a 2g stealth front bumper, and 99 turn signals and 2g stealth turn signals.

The 94-98 3000GT and 2g Stealth headlights are not the same.

Cianci (www.cianciusa.com) makes a few kick-ass bumpers that work with the 99/2g stealth headlights as well.

If you want any products from him, let me know. I can help you out on the pricing a little bit.

Re: Headlight conversion

. . . OR
instead of doing all that, you could take a much cheaper and less time consuming approach and pop in some rx7 headlights. not exactly the same thing, but it still looks good and gets rid of the pop ups.

Re: Headlight conversion

I also thinking maybe either doing the minium to repair this car for inspection and sell it double my money and buy the 2nd gen or just buy a parts car for 800-1000 and get the wheels tires seats dash shifter boots that I need plus lights core support and harness that I want two got sold on me today bfore I got off

Stupid overtime
by the way both of your cars are hot

and I love vr4chokes' headlights what are they? The angel eyes or somthing different?

Re: Headlight conversion

No RX7 lights actually fit. Those are a kit you buy. The look like total ass IMO.
