question on oil changes for tt

i heard from someone that you should fill the filter first with fresh oil before filling the motor with the 5 quarts (or whatever it is) on turbocharged cars. is this true?

ive never done that. for an na car as well as a turbo car the oil pump works the same. if seen ppl do it to othe vehicles...but mainly bigger trucks. they say its because the filters legnth so the oil can be inside it...just put the filter on, put the oil in, plug, turn the car and let it run for a bit to circulate....then check the level

this is a common thing for diesels epically the trucks, from my experience as a oil and tire guy we always did this with turbo diesel trucks but never cars.

Really??? I used to just put the filter on with no oil in it but then I read somewhere that we should put oil in the filter so that the car isn't completely empty during start-up so I started doing that.

So which one is true? And if it's bad to have oil in the filter can someone explain why!?!

Yes. We always fill the oil filter with oil, and lube up the rubber seal/gasket at the top of the filter to ensure a 100% seal.

How can it be bad, for oil to be in the oil filter?

Its completely unnecessary. The oil filter fills within the first few cranks of the car.

Definitely dip your finger in some oil and rub it on the seal of the new filter before putting it on though.

ive always filled the filter on every car ive ever changed the oil on. dunno why. just seemed the right thing to do. and the walk through says too! check it

I could make a walk thru that says to piss in your oil filter before you put it on. Doesn't mean its right and/or necessary.

Hell, my other turbo car you can't do that because the filter is at a 90 degree angle. Completely unnecessary. Just be sure to lube the gasket and you'll be fine.
