94 Lumina apv 3.8 will not accelerate then stalls.

Hi.
I hope someone can help me.
I have a 1994 Chevy Lumina apv 3.8L
The van has not been right for sometime.
when you can eventually get it to idle, it doesn't idle to bad (a bit of surging) But as soon as you try to accelerate it coughs and splutters and stalls. It doesn't always get the service light coming on either.
My friend checked it out. He checked fuel pump signal, fuel pressure, plugs, wires, Used his scan tool and said the cam and crank sensor are ok. He said it was the ignition control module. I bought one and fitted it ($140) The car ran just as bad. Touch the throttle and it would surge up and down and die.

I then read on this forum that it could be a plugged cat. I removed the cat and had my fingers crossed. The problem is still the same.
I also read that it could be the egr valve. Is that worth taking off and cleaning?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Regards
Tony

I'd pull the codes.

Re: 94 Lumina apv 3.8 will not accelerate then stalls.

Hi.
I managed to get a code out of my car today using my friends scan tool.
P1350.

I followed the the flow chart he printed for me. I cleared the code and let the engine idle for a couple of minutes. The MIL did illuminate again giving me a code p1350 only.

I then measured the resistance from the pcm IC harness terminal to ground and got a reading of 156 ohms. So that was ok.

Next I connected a test light to the PCM harness by-pass terminal and battery voltage. The light was on. I unplugged the ICM and the light stayed on.

The flow chart asks you to check for short to ground on the ICM harness.
Right. this is where I start to get confused lol. With the key turned off. I get a short to ground on the BLK/WHT 451 wire which is correct. The only other wire that gives me a short to ground is the Pink 839 wire. That is as far as I can go lol. I'm not sure if it should be shorting to ground or not as my mechanical expertise are very limited.

Any help we be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

I had something not as severe..but anyway, the MAF sensor was dirty....I think if you disconnect the MAF, it falls back on limp mode or default mode..will pop a code...and will provide more fuel so you can get back home....
If it helps, then investigate MAF sensor. Dirty MAF sensor does not pop a code..it just thinks there is no air passing by....so it provides no fuel...
The symptoms also mimic those associated with failed TPS....but that normally pops a code and inhibits 4th, TCC and cruise control.....you would know....

Hi LMP.
I had already cleaned out the maf sensor.
I'm not sure what TPS is. But I have a new code which popped up today.
P1361 Ignition control not toggling.
I have only just put in a new ICM and a new ECM this week. So Now I am really stumped.
I love my Lumina to bits, But I am seriously thinking about trading it in if I can't figure this one out.

TPS: throttle position sensor. THE "touch the throttle, it surges up and down and dies" would be relevant with TPS failure, a common issue. YOU can check it by measuring voltage output(0.5 to 4.5 v) ...but then it must be connected with key ON; rather unplug and measure resistance (key off) as you depress throttle....range is near 0 to 10000 ohms...but what counts is one of the 3 pins will change resistance relative to any of the other two in a continuous manner...no jumps, no discontinuity.
