Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

Hi, I just replaced the original steering wheel with a leather steering wheel. The problem is that now the airbag light comes on. When I replaced the steering wheel I disconnected the power for 20 minutes, and carefully unplugged and plugged the airbag harnesses. I had done this before on an 06 silverado with no problems. But on this car the air bag light does not want to go off. I already tried disconnecting the battery for another 20 min with no luck... Did my car store an error code? What else could have gone wrong?

Thank you very much for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

You could have it scanned for ABS codes. It sounds like you may have messed up the clock spring.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

Thank you for your advice, I'll remove the airbag and double check the connections and harnesses.

Do you know if the airbag may have stored a code just because of the removal of the airbag? Even though it was connected back again properly.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

I think the only way for the airbag system to store a code is if something is disconnected and the key is turned on. You may just want to get it scanned, but I have a feeling it is going to come back with an igniter module circuit problem. Remember, under no circumstances are you to ohm check an air bag module.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

I removed the air bag again and found out that one of the clock spring harnesses was not pushed in all the way. I think thats what happens when you change a steering wheel at night with no light and by yourself....
Anyways, thank you for your help for pointing me out the problem.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement Turned On Air Bag Light

Problem solved? Nice job!

BTW, nice wax job on your truck! I love the reflection lines in the camera lens.
