Car Won't Start
For the past three days I have had starting issues. It started when I was putting air in my tires with my air pump. Went to crank the car later on, and it wouldn't start. Ran the pump 5 minutes max total. Had to get a boost off. Let it run 15 minutes it was drove a couple hours later it was ok. Next day I go to crank it up all is well. Go to the mailbox at my apartment building. Get back in car won't crank. had to get a boost off. Drove it two more times that night. This morning I go to check the voltage on battery to see if its draining overnight. Voltage is 12.5v. Which should be nothing to worry about. I go to start the car and Bamm. Car won't start. So I'm stuck again and waiting on a boost off.
Some info: Battery is NAPA Legend battery and only 4 months old. Starter replaced last September (remanufactured) and Alternator replaced last spring, May I think. Doesn't seem temp related. It was 85 deg the first time and now its in the high 50's. Does seem time related so possible parasitc draw? But yesterday it started after sitting overnight, but voltage is at 12.5 although it should be at 12.6 that just not big enough drop though. Has been raining the last two days but it was sunny outside the first time this happen. All other lights are very bright when checked including head lights. but it just won't crank. Could the battery cable to starter be bad. Not minum corrosion on the cable and bolt if any. Stump and fustrated right now. Will get the battery tested as soon as a get a boost off and drive around awhile. ![]()

Re: Car Won't Start
First thing I would do indeed is have the battery load tested. I've know enough batteries brake down and replaced under warranty that are less then 4 months old.

Re: Car Won't Start
Problem solved! Battery was bad. It failed a load test. But not before I took the starter off and got it tested. I cleaned the battery which had only a slight amount of corrosion on it probably from the old battery and now all is well.
Battery Was a NAPA Legend O.E. style battery 925CCA and only 4 months old. I never drained it or anthing since got it. And it was $82!!

Re: Car Won't Start
It pays to look at the obvious! I hope you got a new battery under warranty.

Re: Car Won't Start
They replaced it with no problem. The guy just said the battery is bad and went to the shelf and got me another one. Just hope this one last like it's suppose to.

Re: Car Won't Start
Don't know how it is in the US but overhere battery quality is nowhere what it used to be; they most often barely make it past the warranty period.
But $82 is a steal, cheapest 70ah battery fitting for a PA overhere is $146, average price is more like $200 |

Re: Car Won't Start
Got a question. How much power does the fuel pump require during start up? At first it would start instantly and sometimes and would take a little longer. I was thinking fuel pump getting old since its the original. So I would just turn the key for the fuel pump to engage and then start the car to elimate the long start. The reason I asked was becuase I've noticed that long starts are non existent now.
Just wondering out of curiosity. Also how long have others, have their original fuel pump last?
