Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

I just got my Stagea in the mail. Looks like a pretty nice kit. Only thing I don't like about this particular kit is the body kit wasn't quite as cool looking as in the photo and the wheels look a lot smaller.

The wheels are easy. I noticed that on the box, there was a body line across the front bumper to help break it up visually. That line was not in the kit so I masked it off on both sides with only a sliver of the kit showing and careful scribed it out with an x-acto. after a number of passes, I used an emory board at an angle to slightly widen the line. I think it came out pretty good. More to follow soon.

1988 911 by Tamiya is on the way next.

Looking forward to seeing this one built. I did the Mine's version earlier this year. The Fujimi Stagea is a nice kit.

Such tiny details make a surprising difference. Nice work, I can't wait to see more.

good eye. looks like the bumper was a 2-piece or a lip kit. are you planning on continuing the line into the center section?

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

Nice start.
Yes, the little added extras such as separation lines on mouldings and the like can add so much to a build.
You made that look so easy...and you have to wonder, why they didn't do it...??
Look forward to seeing this one develop...

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

I don't think I will take the line to the lower grill opening. Too hard to scribe a straight line there. I am also thinking about the R34 front end conversion after looking on google last night. What I really wish I could get was the newer gen Stagea and do the R35 conversion like the one pictured below

I will probably end up building the last pic posted here. The Stagea kit version with GTR wheels. I don't want to jump into a full front end conversion quite yet. And I cannot find my Tamiya R34 kit that was laying around I think I like white the best and was even thinking of doing satin white with carbon fiber bits and satin grey wheels.....

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

Found this photo of a really nice rear bumper. So..... I decided to turn the kit bumper into this one. This is kind of neat as I have never done fab work like this before.

I first sectioned the bumper. I wish I had taken a before photo but you can see how bulky it looks on the box.

I measured down to the lowest body line on the model and cut the the rest that covered above that off. Then I masked and cut out the lower section to mimic the photo. I will then use either the lower portion I removed or flat stock along with some think tubing to create the recess like the photo. Still need to do some final sanding to even it up but it's close. I am also definitely going with white on this kit.

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

y'know, I really like the look of the rear bumpers where there is a blacked out centre section like on the new Fiesta and Evo X for that matter.

I think that would look quite good on an estate body that has such a drastically flat/steep rear.

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

Looking good so far, hope you find your GTR kit, that would look pretty awesome with an R34 front end. The newest stagea is a pretty sexy looking car (even tho its a statin wagon) but with the R35 GTR front end looks Way better.
Cant wait to see more

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

Few questions. How long do you generally let the base dry before clearing?

And how is the best way to paint the door and gas door gaps?

Re: Autotech Nissan Stagea 260RS 1/24

I like the rear valance! It depends on the paint, usually with enamel you want to wait at least 24-48 hours. With tamiya ts, i usually clear it after the next day if all the imperfections are removed. Some people wait longer, make sure you leave it alone after clearing for a while so the paint cures out. Good luck.
