2000 K2500 Brake problem

I have a 2000 K2500HD (old body style) and I have a problem with the brakes but the brake light DOES NOT come on. When braking, once the truck is almost stopped the pedal will start to fade down and sometimes there will be like a growling/clicking sounds...I'm not sure where it's coming from though, it hasn't don't that to many times. I thought it might be the master cylinder so I replaced it but it didn't change the problem. I'm thinking it might be either the vacum booster or the ABS pump. I was hoping someone on here might have an idea what the problem might be. Thanks.

Re: 2000 K2500 Brake problem

Ok it can be a few things first check the back area between drums and backing plates for wet spots as the wheel cylinders can be leaking.another can be the dump valve in the abs unit not working right and the hydraulic is releasing.pull the vacuum line off the booster and pump the pedal and see if it gets stiffer.if the pedal gets stiffer the booster is fine.check the other things. my bet it is the hydraulic unit in the abs giving away. Also check the abs if there is any codes stored. You could still just have air in the lines too.hope this helps

Re: 2000 K2500 Brake problem

I checked out the brake system and couldn't find any problems, there wasn't any wet spots on the wheel cylinders and i pulled the line on the booster and that was good also. I brought the truck in to a brake shop and had them check it out. Both my front wheel bearings ABS sensors are not working. Gotta love ABS brakes.

the front abs sensors get pushed out of position by a small amount of rust the sensors themselves are usually good ...this is /was a recall...I found the the sensors must put out 480MV ,,to properly keep the abs from coming on when braking at very low speeds...my sensors had 325MV when the abs started acting up on my vehicle so I JUST BASICLY DID THE RECALL MY SELF...

now 2.5yrs later no abs issues ....also I put alot of black solvent based undercoating over this area...no way thats gonna rust again...

Re: 2000 K2500 Brake problem

I heard about a recall but was told it was only on trucks newer then mine, mine is a 2000 old body style. I had my truck at a dealer about 2 years ago and they made the repairs on a different recall but nothing was said about my ABS system. Was it a more recent recall?

the only way to tell is to let the dealer run the vin and they will know if there are any open recalls on your vehicle
