Electric Power Steering

My girlfriend has a G6 and lives on the other side of the country. She is having problems with her power steering. Apparantly she loses power steering at various times and the dash light comes on. It seems to be pretty random and then everything works again. Any ideas? I realize she has an electric power steering assist and was checking to see if anybody else had this problem. If anything I could give her an idea of how much it will cost so she doesn't get took. Thanks y'all.

Re: Electric Power Steering

Very common issue. The steering sensor in the column goes bad. The dealer sells this as a complete column assembly. Dorman products offers the sensor individually, part no. 905-513. The part can be purchased from an Advance, Oreillys, or any other store that sells Dorman parts.

Re: Electric Power Steering

Thanks Dorman 68. Did a little search and found you're right about this being an issue. It happens on the G5s as well. I think GM needs a recall on this part. Seems like too big of a safety liability to be screwing people. Lots of people have the problem reappear over and over.
