91 civic 1.5 eng tensioner bearing replacement
In my Honda maintenance manual under timing belt tension adjustment, they note to "loosen but do not remove" the pinch bolt for the timing belt tension pulley. As they do not actually explain the procedure for replacing the tensioner pulley for replacement in the manual is there a problem with removing the bolt once the tensioner spring has been removed? Just wondering if it has to be replaced during an engine overhaul because of a non-captive nut inside the engine once the bolt is removed may prevent me from reinstalling the pinch bolt.
Thanks |

Re: 91 civic 1.5 eng tensioner bearing replacement
no you can just replace it, take the spring off take the bolt out and bam slap the new one on. its a good idea to replace it when rebuilding, but if money is an issue, spin it, if its rough replace it, if its nice and smooth you can probly get away with it,but always a smart idea to replace. its just a threaded hole behind it so no worries there

Re: 91 civic 1.5 eng tensioner bearing replacement
Thanks for the insight. Mine is smooth but seems a bit on the stiff side. Will replace it along with a new tensioner spring.

Re: 91 civic 1.5 eng tensioner bearing replacement
just in case: 4.5kg/m torque to the bolt. when belt installed, turn main pully COUNTERCLOCKWISE 1/4 turn, to put tension on the belt, and then torque it. tensioner must move back and for on the bolt.

Re: 91 civic 1.5 eng tensioner bearing replacement
Its recommended to replace the tensioner along with the timing belt, follow the procedures in your Haynes and you will be good...or a manual like it.
