Headlight Bulb Question

I have an 08 Equinox and wanted to replace the headlight bulbs with a brighter (5900K) bulb. I noticed that the OEM bulbs have a rating of 60/55W and the brighter bulb is 100/80W. My questions are,

1. Since the wattage is higher does that not mean that the current draw will be higher??.Looks like the draw would increase from 5A to 8.3A (approx).
2. Is the wiring able to handle the extra current?

Any input into this subject is appreciated

Thanks

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

1. Yes
2. I vote for no. GM has way to many issues with bulb connectors burning up with O.E. bulbs. I couldn't imagine what would happen with those. A guy could always get lucky and not have any problems.

Ya that was my concern with the wiring/connectors burning up. I too have seen the connectors burn up on other GM vehicles with OE bulbs

Thanks

Re: Headlight Bulb Question

You can buy/install better connectors that can take the heat better, but I'd be hesitant to do so because it might void the warranty (not all of it, just the stuff related to headlight wiring).
