Rear lighting issue on 99 Regal

I noticed that my reverse lights were not working, so I picked up new bulbs. Turns out the bulbs are fine. After looking further, I also notice that the signals, & brake lights are also not working. The basic taillights work, but thats it. I checked all fuses, and all is good. Not sure if it could be related to my other issue I'm having, but looking for options. Here is link to my other issue.

Re: Rear lighting issue on 99 Regal

the multifunction switch, which controls your turn signals and brake lights,is in the steering column so it is possible that they are related, but I`d have to check the wiring diagrams to be sure.(thinking maby a short or something in the column)

Volt. is applied at all times from the stoplamps fuse to the stop lamp switch through circuit 140. V. is applied from the stop lamp switch to the turn signal switch through circuit 17 when the brake pedal is depressed. The v. turns on the left and the right tail/stop/turn signal lamps and the center high mounted stop lamp.

Does the power for the reverse lights also come from the same source, as they are also not working.

Re: Rear lighting issue on 99 Regal

Voltage is applied at all times from the backuplamp fuse to the backup lamp relay. When the trans is shifted into reverse, the trans sends a series of signals to the (PCM ). The PCM then communicates this data to the (BCM ) through the Data Line. The BCM then applies ground signal to the Backup lamp relay. This engages the relay, causing the switch inside the relay to close, allowing voltage to the backup lamps, turning them on.(so no they on seperate circuit 7.5 amp fuse under hood)

does the liscense light and side marker lights work? fuse 15 amp in the power dist. box under hood.

also try using the hazzards and see what happens, maby jiggle the hazzard switch a couple times.

License plate light does work. I'll try the hazards and see what happens.

I've actually got the bottom cover off the column, as I was trying to figure out another problem. Anyplace in particular I could check voltages while that's off?

Re: Rear lighting issue on 99 Regal

Just a follow up. Well for starters, I'm a dumb ass. When I was checking the brake lights and the signals in the rear, I had the trunk open, and was looking at the lights on the trunk hatch itself. As it turns out, those ones are only tail lights. The brake and signals are on the body, so I wasn't even looking at the correct lights. Loser move of the month for me.

But, reverse lights don't work. I checked the fuses in the car, but not the 7.5 under the hood. I'll check that when I get home. If it's just the reverse lights not working, I can live with that if it's more than a fuse, but if the others were not working (but they are), then I'd have been in a panic.

Re: Rear lighting issue on 99 Regal

Well it turns out that it was just the fuse under the hood. I had looked at the list originally, but it didn't specifically say it was for backup lights. Does this fuse do anything else? The lights seem to work now, but I also know that fuses don't typically blow for no reason, so now that's got me wondering what blew it in the first place. Light sockets were nice & clean, no rust, etc., so can't blame it on that.

My drivers side - side view mirror has gone all weird. (like the coating for the tint has separated) Could this be the cause of the fuse going, or is it only for the interior mirror?
