Fuel Pump

Hello guys I need your help I have a 97 LeSabre Custom it has 100,000 miles and the car has never given us a problem. Yesterday I am driving the car and all of a sudden the car slows down and when i try to speed it won't allow me and the car starts running rough and shuts off. When I try to restart a black puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust and it smells like "bad batch of gas". So i am trying for like 20min to start the car and it won't even turn over.

My gas guage does not work and I have fun out of gas a few times. Have any of you had this problem and if so how do fix the gauge.

Re: Fuel Pump

One issue at a time do you have fuel pressure at the injector rail and sufficient spark? Usually the tank unit is at fault but some diagnsosis is required to pinpoint the issue. Did you loose coolant, if the battery is good and no crank( your term turnover?), this coolant be a hydrolock problem, careful trying to crank th engine, make sure you did not loose coolant.

Re: Fuel Pump

Sorry I will slow down. For awhile now my radiator has been leaking but it has been a slow leak. At the time when my car stopped it had been riding fine and the temp has been okay.

Re: Fuel Pump

The repair shop called and said my psi is at 22. I guess this means my pump is bad right? I thought is was leaking radiator fluid but it was transmission, he said my gasket pan is leaking. My sending unit looks fine and he thinks its my gas gauge. What do you guys think? Please help i have two small babies with disabilities and i need my ride.

Re: Fuel Pump

Your mecahic has the best chance to advice your here, no? 22 psi is to low, he has to diagnose the fuel gage, there are resistance tests he can do to the tank unit to determine if it is bad.
