Re: 4t60e wiring

PCM is different, I dont think this will work, maybe if you can switch the valve body and solenoid pak, the connector to the harness is different also.

Re: 4t60e wiring

I am surprised at this, still can't believe it, but just yesterday, I went into a wrecking yard to see about a transmission for my 97 Lesabre.

He had a 98 Lesabre, and I asked about the trans in it. He looked it up, was surprised he said, "its a one year only."

I could not comprehend what he was talking about. After asking more, he said it must be something about the trans that year that's different, because it says only a 97 will fit. He added that there are two different choices in 97, "must be different gear ratios."

With what I know, or thought I knew, this doesn't make seance, with a 4t60e.

I want to be careful not to hijack this thread, but since we have two people with kind of the same problem (wanting to put a trans in a 97), any way to know, or a place to look that has a list of what trans will fit?
Might help others who search the trans in the future.

Chris.

First.... I want you to ask the questions you need to ask.. Please do not jump into this until you have asked all of the questions and fully understand.. Don't want to see you make a sort of costly error..

What your wanting to do is very possible as long as the gear ratio is the same.. Also with this its possible to have a 30 or 31 count reluctor for the VSS pulse.. You will need the numbers off the trans so we can tell you what you actually have..

You will have to research the CV Shaft differences if any.. This will be very important as far as tooth count goes..

By all rights the 93 Trans will fit exactly the same as the 97 trans.. so yes its a direct bolt on..

If you use the 93 Trans you will have to use the 97 Torque converter due to the 97's TCC Apply strategy as well as the 97's converter is made of a different material... This is very important due to the fact that using the 93's converter will result in the converter clutch being fired due to the 97 TCC strategy... so 97 Converter is a must..

You will need to change out the internal wiring harness of the 93 to the 97 wiring harness.. Most of the LeSabres use a harness that has a Temp sensor that lives at the bottom of the valve body, there is a clip of sorts that hold it and that may need to be transferred over to the 93 trans.. Small note, The 93 4T60E has a different harness pinout locations as compared to the 97 4T60E, this is the reason for the harness swap to make the trans function.. If you did not change the wiring harness you will not get very far and will end up with no shifts..

So yes this can be done.. I actually just did this but the opposite way around... I installed a 1997 4T60E 3.06 Ratio trans into a 93 Buick Lesabre.. I used the 93 Internal trans harness on the 97 Trans and have had no issues, trans functions great..

I might have some pictures... I'll have to dig through them.. But very doable with all of the right parts and information..

so ask away..
