1991 f-250 tranny problems
have a 1991 ford f-250 auto trans. (I think an E4OD ?) with a 5.8 liter gas engine. Tranny had been slipping for some time now but I thougt it was just while in O.D. The other day the tranny quit altogether. When I move the gearshifter between gears I can feel the car bump slightly like it went into gear but when the gas is pressed the truck will not move at all, regaurdless of the gear. Is the tranny bad or could it just be the torque converter, and how can I tell. thanks, Robert

Re: 1991 f-250 tranny problems
The torque converter could be damaged. If the vehicle does not move in overdrive, Drive, Low and reverse the transmission shift cable could be damaged. Another possible source could be the control valves. I'm sure you've checked this but it could be low fluid level. The Oil Pump could be dirty, broken, or have damaged seals. If it's been slipping for some time it's probably due for an overhaul. Take it to a tranny shop before you lay out big bucks for an overhaul. It's well worth the time.

Re: 1991 f-250 tranny problems
I'd be looking at the torque converter, that one way clutch is probably bad if it will not go in 1, 2 or reverse. And it probably sent some sprags or other metal into the transmission.
