Suburban Won't turn over but now it does?

Ok this is a continuation of this thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...66#post6044666

Yesterday I went out to start my car and nothing. All I could hear was the fuel pump and the little click from the fuse box under the hood. The car has been running fine up to this point and nothing unusual had been noticed prior to the car not turning over. The only thing different prior to the starting the car was I accidentally set the alarm off.

I checked the battery and it is fine. Cleaned terminals everything it's in perfect working condition. I also tapped on the starter on more than one occasion.

So this morning I went out I turned on the emergency flashers and the car turned on. I turned off the flashers and the car. I then turned the car on several times and it fired up each time. The problem now is I afraid to go anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas on whats wrong here?

You have a Suburban.

If you didn't measure the voltage like I detailed in the previous thread, you don't KNOW if the battery is good or not, etc. I thought you were trying to diagnose here, not guess. Please don't ask for advice and then ignore it.

Yes I have a ohm meter, I checked the voltage, it checked out fine at 12.6 volts. The battery is fine as stated before. I took your advice and I appreciate the help.

If the voltage measures 12.6 while you're trying to start it, then the starter is NOT pulling any laod on the battery. You need to next check the small wire on the starter (you can use a test light for this), to see if it has voltage when the key is turned to "start" and the engine is is the "no-spin" condition. This is to check out the ignition switch connection to the starter. So if this smaller wire/terminal on the starter also gets voltage EVERY time the key is turned to "start", then it sounds like a bad starter.

This all assumes that all your connections are clean and tight.

Have you tried starting the vehicle in neutral instead of park when it wont crank? Does it have a starter relay? Try a jumper wire between posts 30 and 87 of the starter relay socket to see if it cranks, if it has one.

If this vehicle has an aftermarket alarm this is the likely source of your problems...you will have lots of company ...the installers use low quality connectors. after a few years they fail and you get these weird problems..
