Re: Fuel Pump

Yup that is it. The electrical connector attaches to the fuel pump and is held on by a RED horse shoe shaped clip that I believe pulls out to unlock the electrical connector. there is a circular locking ring that holds the pump in place and you must turn it counter clockwise to get the pump out ( I used a rubber strap wrench, do not want any sparks near the fuel). There should be I believe three fuel lines attached to the pump, and they are held on by squeeze together clips (you can see the shoulders of the clip in a cut out in the line, squeze and hold the shoulders and pull the lines free, the clips should sty on the line and when you reinstall the line slides over the clip and locks in place). Once the electrical connector is off and the fuel lines are disconnected you can rotate that locking ring and take it off and the pump will lift out of the tank (watch to see where the rubber gasket is installed on the tank body so when the pump goes back in, the gaskedt is in the correct spot). This is not a comlicated job, but I recommend if yo have the coins to go to a pars store and buy a Haynes manual for your car, it might be the best investment you make, barring that, go to the Auto Zone website, register and look at the repair guides for your car.

Re: Fuel Pump

Bear has given you great info. The clue (dash and stuff goes crazy) makes me believe you may possibly have a bad solder connection in the instrument panel.

Have you tryed the key dance for codes??? Turn key on/off, on/off, on within 5 seconds and count the check engine light for flashes or any codes will be registered in the odometer. EXAMPLES; flash pause flash flash means code 12 or code in the odometer will read P0700 depending which year vehicle it is.

Also which engine is it???

If you have not detached everthing from the fuel tank I would get a fuel pressure tester and test the fuel pressure before replacing fuel pump. I believe autozone will have the tester in thier rent a tool program, you pay a deposit on the tool and when tool is returned the deposit is given back.

hope this helps.

Re: Fuel Pump

There is a special tool out there to remove the ring holding the fuel pump down and it is much easeir to do it this way.Miller tool does make it including one aftermarket tool company.Problem with using a hammer and a brass punch is you destroy the ring.
