is this right?
after tearing apart my head from the block on my b16, the pistons, valves and combustion chamber are as black as night, should all this damn carbon be on this motor from a said 35,000 average use engine from hmotors?
im rebuilding the whole shit anyway, but if i didnt, this cant be good for anything? PS - anyone know of a good cleaner to make this all shiney again? ill post pics soon.

Thousands of explosions have gone off inside it, what do you expect.

i pulled a motor apart with only 35,000 miles on it, and the insides where really black. i used this thing called oil eaters, it got it pretty clean, like the aluminum got clean but the bottom of the valves and the piston got alittle cleaner but not all like shiny or anything, it was still like a brown color after. i guess it was like burnt on there or something.
well its natural for it to turn that color, so taht just how it comes out after |

a cheap way to clean it is to soak it in diesel fuel. an expensive way is to get it glassbeaded

ok just making sure, cuz even when i pulled apart those 100K engines at my school none of em looked like this, im changing all the parts anyway, so i really just wanna get that head cleaned up, so no preignition or detonation might occur.
thanks guys, where can i get that oil eaters shit from?

Clean the pistons up on a wire wheel grinder.....send the head to a machine shop tp get it pressure checked and degreased....ring it and all new gaskets and you should be ok.......

A can of brake cleaner works pretty good too for cleaning that stuff up....a nice soft wire wheel that won't scratch the finish is prolly the best...that is what we used to get all the deposits off the valves/stems and shit..

Dont believe any shops that says the engines have 35,000 miles on it. When i got my b16 they said 35-50,ooo miles on it but i think it has more.

Anyone know how much a shop usually charges for a valve job and a general disassembly and cleanup. I just pulled my GSRs head with about 120k on it. I have the valve jobs, but I'm wondering how much this gonna cost me.
