Cruise Control Issue

I have 2003 Explorer 4.0 and just recently the cruise control began acting up. Some times it will work and other times it wont. What would cause intermittent operation. Thanks for any help.

Re: Cruise Control Issue

when it doesn't work, does the indicator illuminate? Does it shut off while using it or just fail to turn on?

The light does not come on when not working. when it works it will stay on until you try to use it again. It never shuts off by itself while using.

Re: Cruise Control Issue

Other's have suggested issues with the brake light circuit causing their cruise to not even attempt to engage. Next thing to do is to make sure the brake lights work some time when the cruise doesn't.

The brake lights are continuously working while cruise control does not work. I have noticed that every morning the cruise will never work but in the afternoon on the way home from work it will work most of the time. Probably coincidence but who knows.

Re: Cruise Control Issue

Time for a test light, multimeter, and wiring diagram.
