1999 cougar ..brake idiot lite is on ..how much is this going to cost me ?? what has to be changed???

First, check the level of fluid in master cylinder. If it is low, probably need brakes replaced. If fluid is full, possibly emergency brake switch bad or a bad fluid level switch.
