83 K-10 Power Steer bracket.
Hello -
I have an 83 Chevy K-10, 4WD, 350 engine. I bought this used, from an idiot. The problem I am having is this truck has a crate engine, and mis-matched brackets, for the alternator and power steering. I was able to get a standard bracket for the alternator. However, I purchased an aftermarket power steer mounting bracket for the pump - simple two belt system, and its pretty, but the pump is at an angle, so the belt slips when its cold. The way this bracket is manufactured, I cant get behind it to insert spacers to even it out. I have been looking for a standard bracket, but all I am able to locate are aftermarket chrome or anodized types of the same design. Local junkyard is picked over, and without a standard chevy number, I am not havng any luck. I hate dealers, so I am looking to avoid them if possible. Anybody have ay idea where I can find a lead for an old 83? Maybe I have the wrong pump? |

Re: 83 K-10 Power Steer bracket.
Is the engine a small block Chevy? Those PS brackets and pumps were pretty much the same from the 1960's through the late '80's on most SBC-powered cars and trucks.
Imo try the classified ads, such as Craigslist and find someone who is parting-out an appropriate Chevy car or truck or GMC truck, and have a look. Chances are you can pick up the bracket for a couple of bucks. Alternately, you may be able to drill, heat-up-and-bend or modify the existing brakcet. |
