Talking I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

Well I..will be sometime soon anyways....

WHAT'S UP GUYS!!!! I don't know if you guys(and maybe girls) remember me. I sold my DSM 2 1/2 years ago ( 1g ( 92 6 bolt) awd dsm talon). I had a evo 3 on it and and many bolts on. Anyways...I been reading through the forums the past few months because I do plan on purchasing a dsm between now and November.

This time around, I am leaning towards a 2g. Most likely a spyder gst 5 speed. This car won't be my daily driver(my acura will be). I don't mind buying somehting that needs a little work, with that in mind.... if you please give me your thoughts on this car.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-...=p4506.c0.m245

I'd probably get a new tranny put in or rebuild it at least and then fix the exterior up. I'd do all that first.... then after I drive it for a half a year or so... I'd rebuild the motor and/or drop a 6-bolt in(depending on funds at the time). I wouldnt mind buying something already modded, but its nice to buy something like this on the cheaper side and get the stuff done my way..the right way.

Please give me some feedback and idea's. I'd appreciate it all. Sorry I been gone for awhile, but it hurt too much to come back and know I couldn't afford to get another dsm at the time. Just wanna say HI TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN HERE SINCE MU EARLIER DAYS and HI to everyone who has joined since!!!!!

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

That car is super bitched up, I wouldn't trust it if I were you. I mean come on, he couldn't even mount the cd player correctly? He keeps talking about "race ready" which leads me to believe he thought the car was a race car and I would assume he drove that way. I wouldn't do it.

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

Thanks for the welcoming fellas. "super bitched up"..haha is that because of the paint?

I actually like the looks of it...obviously the dents and paint need some attention. The top has no rips and he says it operates perfectly. Leather looks like its in pretty good shape. The motor is stock and probably worn b/c of the miles but his only mod is a turbo timer which is a smart mod. Now if his only mod was a boost controller, I'd be more concerned. Like I said, I'd most likely rebuild the tranny and put a act clutch and pressure plate in while the work be getting done. Drive it for awhile, get used to stick shift again and then eventually rebuild the motor.

What's your thoughts on the high idle during the cold starts? And also...what about the o2 sensor being rotted into the pipe, think that would be the reason for throttle delay? He's including a new cat back exhaust with the car.

My thinking is...I want a spyder gst. I already owned two 1g's and I just want a 2g this time around. Most of the nice cars that are modded are like 4 grand or more(up to like 8 grand). Most of them need to be tuned and this and that. I dont want someone else's modded nightmare. Stock spyder gst's on the east coast seem to be priced around 3,000 to 5,000 which isn't that cheap. I figure, I could buy this for 1800. Rebuild/replace the tranny and still be under the 3,000 mark. I have about 4,000 or so as my budget for shopping as of mid october.

Thanks for your opinions vanilla gorilla and ned. I appreciate the positive and negative..for real.

DavidB and steviek....what you fellas think?

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

It's hard to find these cars with perfect bodies anymore... just been too long.

I would replace the O2 right away and see what other problems arise. Obviously with that many miles on the motor, you may be looking at some work there too. But who knows when that'll happen.

If you check it out, I would do a compression test and see what you go there. I'd be expecting some lower than usual numbers with it's age.

I personally wouldn't buy it, too much work right off the bat. HOWEVER, since you plan on rebuilding the tranny and the motor, see if you can get the price dropped and go for it.

Thanks for the input. I'm gonna price the tranny for it sometime in the next couple of days. I talked to the owner of the car, he sounds like he'd let it go for 1700. He said it goes into 4th gear, but then it pops out around 3000 rpm's. I'll keep you guys posted.

Any other opinions and thoughts along the way are welcomed.
Anyone know of any nice spyder gst's within 300 mile range of NJ, let me know. Thanks

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

It actually doesn't look bad just a lot of miles. There is deffinately better out there but most other cars will have some body damage also. So buy a cheap car and plan on painting it sounds like a good plan, good luck.

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

Dont bother trying to rebuild the trans. Just check ebay and craigslist and see if you can find a cheap tranny. I bought one for my gst locally off craigslist for $250, guy didnt know what he had obviously.

Re: I'm BAAAAAACK( I think!)

There's a guy around here that is selling his spyder gst. I don't know how much he wants but it is an automatic and it has a SAFC2, turbo timer, and a couple other little goodies. If you want I will text him later and see what he wants for it?

Yea send me some info... I was trying to avoid owning another a/t but what the heck... throw some info and numbers at me?

And where is...around here?

I did see some trannys for sale around $400 in south jersey, just hard to trust the person that it shifts fine and is in good shape.

Welcome back. I remember ya from the old days. How's things been?... Shame you weren't back on here at the beginning of the year. My buddy was selling a pretty nice stock Spyder GST. Would have made for a nice project.

Thanks blackcrow for the welcome back...I remember you too. I been pretty good. Just slowly finishing up school and ready to buy me a non-daily driver dsm! I thought the day would take forever but nope..I'm ready a couple years later. I wish I could have had a chance at that spyder... I been looking for the right one for a couple months now. I'm just going to remain patient here til it comes around.

How have you been? I was here during the kjewer days haha. Is thor still around? This place seems much less chatty since those days. Hmmm... I guess the economy got to dsmer's which I understand.
