1998 Windstar Luggage Cargo Carrier issue

Hello,

I want to add a cargo carrier on my 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8 engine. I read on the internet that the roof on the Windstar isn't strong enough for a carrier. I was just wondering if you could tell me if this is true?

Thanks,

Brian

I am not up on how much weight you can put up there.....I would not want to put much as weight up high is not a good thing for handling capabilities for any vehicle.
Also....anything you put up there adds to wind resistance, which also will impact the handling.
However, a luggage rack was an option on the windstar, so the roof must be up to something up there.
Having one added is possible....but make sure that it is installed correctly......you don't want any leaks into the vehicle.

Re: 1998 Windstar Luggage Cargo Carrier issue

Never thought about driving issues. I was thinking about doing this or a hitch to pull a trailer. I thought this might be easier as I don't know how to mount the hitch and run wires to the trailer for signals. Also my biggest concern was that the Windstar wouldn't be able to pull 600lbs.

Our 99 sel has a rack on top. We also have the front half of the roof hlaf caved in (huge dent) from putting stuff up there. Not a strong roof.
