Re: HLJ offers free shipping

Great, because shipping now costs about the same as a new model!

...and I just read the qualifications for free shipping, which means no free shipping for me. Only available for orders placed within a 7 day period and only for in-stock, ready-to-ship products.

Re: HLJ offers free shipping

yeah, this offer would be interesting if the shipping method was SAL, not express. I am in France, all EMS / Fedex parcels are inspected by French customs, and they charge an 8€ fee for this "service". To that, I also need to pay 20,6% VAT on the declared value (and HLJ declares the full paid value, as opposed to some other shops). For example, for a 2800 yen kit:

2800 yen => 20,70€
shipping charge : 0
French VAT : 4€
Customs fee : 8€

Total: 32,70€

For SAL:
shipping charge: 7€
French VAT : 0
Customs fee : 0
Total : 28€
(usually SAL small parcels go through customs without being inspected / charged, but it can happen, about 10% chance I would say)

What about other countries, what do you pay for importing goods from Japan?

I pay 19% on the value of the goods plus a +/-15 euros fee for custom services because i didn't declare the goods...
For a resin kit I pay about 40 to 50 euros to custom services...
But ther are periods when the imported goods go through the services without being checked, especially on normal carton boxes without a companies name as HLJ

Re: HLJ offers free shipping

In Estonia they lately raised the maximum value of the goods that can be imported without paying the VAT and customs taxes to 150 EUR (it used to be something like 22 EUR), and it was done in order to bring the local regulations in line with the EU ones. I haven't read EC regulation 274/2008 in detail but I would guess that soon all EU countries will have to establish the 150 EUR limit.

Edit: now that I've read the regulation, it says it shall apply (including the 150 EUR limit) from December 1st, 2008, which is exactly when the regulations changed in Estonia. To be honest I cannot understand why it has not been implemented in all EU countries.

Because many countries don't give a damn about EU regulations when they lose out on some money, they are only interested about the EU regulations when they can make a profit out of it.

That's how it should be for private persons everywhere, but I suppose that for the European governments globalization only works one way.

Re: HLJ offers free shipping

Guys, the taxes your governments are charging you has nothing to do with HLJ offering free shipping.

That's true.
On top of that when placing the order one can also chose SAL instead of EMS, I bet they will not be unhappy to pay less to send the items.
