Exclamation Wheel Hub/Noise Question

Hello everyone, maybe someone can shed some light. I have a 2001 GP GT, non SC with 108,000 miles on it. It runs pretty good, never any major problems. I did have my passenger side wheel hub/sensor replaced about 2 years ago, my abs light comes on almost instantly when I start the car and sometimes after I start driving. I've pretty much ignored it. The problem is I have this noise which one would think is coming from the tranny (the car seems to accellerate and shift fine). Would a bad wheel hub/ bearing / sensor cause a constant noise? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thankyou-Joe

Re: Wheel Hub/Noise Question

Wheel hubs will make noise while moving, but if the noise is there while sitting still, then it's more likely trans related. Also, hub noises will steadily change in pitch with wheel speed, and trans issues will change pitch as the trans shifts.

Re: Wheel Hub/Noise Question

Does the noise change at all with speed? I'm not sure about the constant noise but bad hubs are probably the most common cause for the ABS light to go on. You could probably get your dealer to check the codes. Mine did for no charge. You can also check the resistance at each sensor to see if they measure right. They should be about 1000 ohms. Or instead of checking at the sensor you could check at the electrical connector at the abs module. For my 01 GTP the pins are the following. Don't know if they'd be the same or not for the GT. Good luck.
RR Signal: Pin 2
RR Low Ref: Pin 3
RF Signal: Pin 4
RF Low Ref: Pin 5
LF Signal: Pin 20
LF Low Ref: Pin 21
LR Signal: Pin 22
LR Low Ref: Pin 23

Re: Wheel Hub/Noise Question

The noise seems to go up or down with the speed of the car. I DONT Think it is tranny related being that the tachometer doesnt show anything out of the ordinary as it seems to shift normal. Someone told me that it might be a bearing in the wheel hub, thats what brought me to that possibility in addition to the ABS light CONSTANLY on. Thanks guys for all your help. I will keep you posted.

Re: Wheel Hub/Noise Question

Good advice to check at the sensor and at the ABS module. I have checked the sensor at the hub on my 2002 GT. All seem to be fine but I suspect the wiring.

Does anyone have a picture or can you tell me where the ABS module is located?? I would like to check my signals at the other end of the cable.

You need to get your car scanned with an ABS capable DTC scanner and it will tell you which hub assy is bad.
