Extended cab windows

I have a 1982 extended cab s-10. How do you remove the side fixed windows? I am planning on painting the cab and there is some rust around these windows.

Re: Extended cab windows

I thought that the extended cab windows were the swing-out type. If they are not, then you would have to cut the adhesive holding them in. Be careful to not damage the plastic edge trim around the window.

If they are swing-out style, then you can remove the pressed-in pin to disconnect the plastic lock lever and window and unscrew the retaining nut. It appears it will slide out of the slots for the hinges from the parts drawing here... http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cst/full.aspx?Page=29

[EDIT] Just checked...both were offered. Shoulda done my research beforehand Changes are in italics.

Re: Extended cab windows

They are the fixed type. Do I have to remove the black rubber trim from the outer edge? If so what is the best way to do it without damaging them? And any more details would help. Thanks

Re: Extended cab windows

You'll need a windshield bead cutting tool with some tape wrapped around the bend to protect the plastic/rubber trim...or you could apply tape around the window edge. You should not need to remove the window's edge trim. You can also apply tape to the cab around the window to protect the edge.

If you have reservations, take the truck to your local window replacement shop and ask them to cut them out for a small fee. Good luck!
