1997 ws6 running weird when hot

whats up guys, well here is what i got.
1997 trans am ws6, 71,xxx miles just got it about a month ago, temp climes at a stop light. but driving around temp sits at 180-190 i found out its very common for these lt1's temps to move around. so i just drive with the heater on cause if it gets a little higher than 190degrees, i will let off the gas pedal after a good block or two cruse and the idle does not want to drop down past 2000rpm's even if its in gear i cant slow down using my gears. when i come to a stop it slowly comes down to normal but somehow it works better for me to tap the gas and it comes down imedetly just started doing this after runner perfect for 3 weeks, im 19 and this is my first car i bought by myself and i need a little help! i know about cars enouph to get me by but as soon as i lift the hood i close it, to much computer shit. so if anyone has had a similar problem like this, please let me know of anything i can do to fix this problem

Temp climbing when sitting is not bad as long as it does go over 220. Factory fans do not come on until about 220. When you are driving you don't need the fans as the airflow from moving cools the car down.
You can buy a fan switch that will turn the fans on at a lower temp from Summit Racing.

The idle could be dirty/bad IAC (Idle Air Control) valve it is screwed into the throttle body. You need to take it out and clean it. Get one of those $15 manuals and it wil ltell you how to set minimum air.

You should also check the voltage on your throttle position sensor.
