Engine Cooling Fan

I recently bought a 1986 Camaro Iroc-Z28 with a 305 TPI in it. I just noticed a few days ago that the Cooling fan wasn't working. From other small issues with the car I noticed that the electrical system is crap. I went to an advance auto store and asked about what I could do. They gave me a few options, but one that kinda stood out was putting a toggle switch on it so I could control when the fan is on/off. This direction some what seems the best way to me because the electrical system is not the greatest. I believe a toggle switch would be the easiest and safest way to go. I need your opinions! Thanks.
