|
Block machining question
I have a 350 block that I have had bored and torque plate honed, decked and line honed. The problem I have is that someone where I work parked it under a leak in the roof and now two cylinders are bubbled with rust. I have pistons already bought for it and am wondering if it would be ok to just have the two cylinders sleeved. Somone told me it would egg shape the adjoining cylinders if I did this. I have hyper pistons and will only be running about 300 hp. What are your thoughts? Will it really egg shape them enough to be a problem? Thank you.

Typically, sleeves are installed with about .002" of interference ("press"). Theorhetically, it WOULD distort the adjoining cylinder by about that amount. It would tend to make it "smaller". Once the sleeves are intalled and "sized" (to the desired bore diameter), re-honing of the other cylinders should "clean it up". Not a major issue.
