Unhappy haha!!! just my luck!

So recently i posted a thread on here about my car not getting spark even tho i had power to the coil. found the problem and fixed it. the crank sensor wire was threaded into the top starter bolt. NOW i have a new problem. after i pulled the motor and put in a timing chain and a rear main oil seal, the transmission started to leak today. this mornig it was just a couple drops but i just got back from work, i went to the the store and now the leak has seriously got WWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYY worse than just a couple drops. i put in a 24 ounce bottle of lucas, since it was a small leak. well 4 hours later it all ran out. what i need to know is. since the transmisison is a 5 speed, is there a seal or something in the front that can be easily replaced? i know im gonna have to pull the transmission out and everything but like a dumbass i never looked at it to see what kind of shape it was in. this is my first saturn and im not to familiar with it. you guys have been awesome so far and i could really use your help AGAIN. thanks in advance.

Mike

The output shaft (driveaxle) seals can be easily replaced and those are a common place for tranny fluid leaks. Any change in how it drives? The massive leak could be from awful diff pin failure which usually cracks the tranny case open and causes a massive loss of fluid.

Re: haha!!! just my luck!

There is no change in how it drives. 4th gear made a bunch of noise until i put fluid in it. then it stopped. i avoided 4th gear like the black plague on the way home from work. th fluid is coming out between the bell housing and the motor where it bolts togethor.

There is the input shaft seal, but that is it. Either way that tranny needs to come out for inspection. If the Diff pin is bad you'll see small hole where its starting to poke a hole through it. You can also check the pin through the Speed sensor hole either before or after you take the tranny out.

If the diff pin is bad where would i find it? i havent driven it since i caught the leak. i have to go to the dealer to get an input shaft seal for i since none of the auto parts stores can get one. either way i gotta fix it by this weekend. im gonna replace the output shaft seals also while its out. to try and save any furthur hassles. if it is the diff pin how would i go about replacing that?

You would need a new differential. Tear the tranny down to remove the old one and put the new one in. Weld the diff pin on the new one first.

If the diff pin is bad, you can see it through the VSS hole with a mirror.

Are these a pretty common thing to go bad? it doesnt make any weird noise when its full but the fluid pretty much just runs right out where the motor and trans bolt togethor. when the fluid level gets low it only makes noise in 4th gear. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and reverse are fine

Re: haha!!! just my luck!

Unfortunately Yes. Its easier to just replace the tranny with a junkyard one.

The pin most likely put a small hole in the bell housing. You can see the pin through the VSS hole. If its loose you'll be able to push it with your finger :/ This will help verify the issue.

I have posted a video for this before. If you cant find it lemme know.

Re: haha!!! just my luck!

wow that sucks. i took off the battery tray and the ecu to get a good look at it. is the speed sensor the only one directly on top of the trans? by the shift linkage? if so it has a little ball on the end of it and i couldnt see any pin or move anything in there with a long bolt i was using. i couldnt get my finger in there to move anything the hole was only about a half inch wide.

now im starting to get nervous becuase i really dont have the money to get another trans right now

Re: haha!!! just my luck!

i even called a local saturn dealer and spoke to a mechanic. he told me that for my particular car i wouldnt see the hole (if there was one) unless i completely pulled the transmission.

Re: haha!!! just my luck!

He's correct.

I suggested looking at the videos I posted and if you could not find them to let me know. You were looking through the Reverse Light Switch hole on the shift tower. No where near the Differential and the Vehicle Speed Sensor hole.
