I have a 1988 Caprice. I was messing around with the radio a while back and now the crtsy/clk fuse keeps blowing. Sometimes it will be o.k. for a couple of days and than it will blow. Not sure if there is a problem with the horn. After the fuse blows anytime i try to put a new fuse in it blows as soon as i put it in. I appreciate any help anyone can give me
Thank you, Vinnie |

Re: Courtesy/Clk fuse keeps blowing
Short to ground or power, pull radio and check for a pinched or bare wire.

Re: Courtesy/Clk fuse keeps blowing
Do you still have the stock radio? It may be possible that the radio is causing this problem especially if you were messing around with it. On my '85 caprice the radio circuit runs off of the courtesy/clock circuit. In other words taking out the CTSY/CLK fuse will also shut off my radio.
Just today I realized that my new radio takes 10 amps and the stock radio fuse is 10 amps... Today I put in a 15 amp fuse and everything is working better and no blown fuses so far. However note that if you have a new radio that needs more than 10 amps you may also need to decrease the wire gauge a bit to accompany that (bigger wire). Your accessory outlet/cig lighter may also run off of the CTSY/CLK fuse fyi. Good luck.

Thank you all for your help and replies. I found the problem. I took the radio out and the problem is in one of the harnesses that attach to the back of the radio. Not sure if it is somewhere in the harness (as i suspect) or where the harness connects to the fuse box. Anyway, after i took out the mounting screws and pulled the radio out a few inches I was able to put in a fuse without it blowing. I wiggled the different harnesses and found the one that was blowing the fuse. As the radio wasn't working properly anyway, I just disconnected the harness that was causing the problem and than reinstalled the radio without connecting the bad harness. So far, so good.
