Post 2007 Impala A/C and Rear Defrost - Is this working right?

I have a 2007 Impala LT that I bought certified-used a few months ago. My warranty expires soon, so if something isn't right, I want the GM dealer to fix it on their dime.

The owner's manual states, "The rear window defogger will turn off automatically after it has been activated for 10 minutes." But on my car, once you turn it on, it doesn't turn off until you turn it (or the car) off.

Also, if the Climate Control is in Recirculation Mode, the A/C Compressor is running. The Indicator LED may or may not be on. Pressing the A/C On/Off button makes no difference -- the A/C doesn't turn off; the compressor is still engaged and blowing cold air out the vents.

Can someone please verify these operations on their Impala?
I called the service dept of my local GM dealer, and they don't know for sure if these are issues or not. And I don't want to "push it" with them, unless I know for sure there is a problem.
Thanks in advance.

Re: 2007 Impala A/C and Rear Defrost - Is this working right?

I heard back from my local GM dealer. They stated that the Rear Defrost shut-off time varies according to conditions -- ambient temperature, vehicle speed, etc; and may take up to 20-minutes to turn off. I told them it never times out! My commute is 45-minutes to an hour each way, and the Rear Defrost would stay on the entire time. They basically said, 'Oh well'.

I am concerned that either my wife or I will "forget" on a long trip, and burn out the grid.

And the A/C problem? They still don't know if it's a concern or not.

Here is the verbage from the service manual- your a/c operation is functioning as designed- light or no light.

The A/C system can be engaged by either pressing the A/C switch or by selecting the following modes:

• Max A/C (recirculation mode)

• Heater

• Mix-Blend

• Front Defrost

The A/C LED will not illuminate unless the driver presses the A/C request switch on the HVAC control module. Otherwise, the A/C system may be running without the A/C LED indicator illuminated while in Defrost mode

So, I assume that also applies to "Recirculation" Mode, too.

Any verbage on the Rear Defrost operation? I'm willing to bet that it should time-out during my 45-minute to one-hour commute.
