Angry 2001 2.4 rebuilt, still no start

I posted here about a month ago about getting a non-running 2001 2.4L for cheap and doing a rebuild to get it running. Well had some minor issues and problems with some shippers, but got it all done and together.

When I turn the key, it cranks fine. It's getting fuel, but no spark. I tried spraying starter fluid in the TB to see maybe if it was no fuel and just spark, but no luck. When I tested out the coil pack to see if the spark plugs were firing, they're not doing anything.

So I'm thinking it's either the ignition system or that the built in security system is cutting them off. All fuses are fine.

My buddy whose car it used to be said to turn the key to Start and the security light should blink, then turn the key to the acc/on and leave for 10min and that always worked. That light never blinks. No luck.

I looked on here and saw the Start to On, and let sit for 11min, then Off and repeat 4 times or whatever with no luck. Just does the same thing.

I really need this car running soon. Week project turned into over a month now. Not good. I blew the motor on my Talon, so I'm a proud owner of 2 non-running cars right now. Very sad.

Check that you did not leave crankshaft sensor unplugged or that you did not damage its wires. I hope that you did not damage the reluctor ring when you were removing crankshaft balancer.

Your theft system should be the passlock so it would shut down the injectors and not the ignition.

Like 3100 mentioned make sure the crank position sensor is plugged in and the wiring is good. Check your ICM and ignition fuse. Check that the pink wire to ICM has power with key ON and check the black wire provides ground.

Re: 2001 2.4 rebuilt, still no start

I don't believe I unplugged the crankshaft sensor since I kept the block in the car and did no bottom end work. Where exactly is it located at? Have the book at home so could check there also for location.

All fuses are fine... check everything in the in and outer fuse box. I couldn't find a pink wire when I was checking out the ignition. Is it in the loom going to the harness leading to the ICM? Or is it in the plate with the coils? I'm used to working on a coilpacks with wires and are much better systems then what this car uses.

Thank you very much, guys.

The crank position sensor should be just above the oil filter.

Yes this set up is a little different from the other type, but not much. The pink and black wire is in the loom going to the ICM. I don't understand didn't you have the coil plate off when you were reparing the engine and when you were testing for spark? There should be two connectors to the ICM. With key ON, and a test light to +B probe where the orange and then the white wire connect to the ICM. When you remove the test light the coil should fire.

Cool cool. I'll be headed to the garage this morning to check it out. I had everything apart, but maybe it was just that the wires were dirty and being night I couldn't really see pink. All I know is that I wasn't getting any signal from any plug.

Re: 2001 2.4 rebuilt, still no start

All the other posters here have a good idea and you should check them all.

If you do have a problem with the ignition system, I just read you left your key on for 11 mins. No good. If the security light is on or flashing and the car will not start follow this proceedure.

Turn the key to start. You said the engine spins like crazy. Crank it. Leave the key ON for a minimum 12 mins. Don't worry 20 to 30 is ok. Turn the ignition off and take the key out. Put the key in and if its the BCM module, it should have reset. Crank the engine. It should start.

I am assuming thats the case. I am not a master mechanic but anything is a good shot. Let us know how you do.
