Sony Deck Plays low but Cuts on and off when turned up loud
I have a Sony detachable face CD player in my Cavalier and I don't know if I have it grounded good enough but when I play it low it plays fine, when I turn it up loud it cuts out, then on, then out and on, and so on until I turn it down. I don't know if this is a Sony thing but I remember having problems like these in the past. Is this a simple fix?

I should have it grounded to the regular wire harness inside behind it, but if I remember I might have took some extra wire from that ground and put it onto the inside area of metal as well to ground it more.

putting the gound wire straight to bare metal is the right way to do it. What else do yu have in your system ?

Re: Sony Deck Plays low but Cuts on and off when turned up loud
I had a system in there a while back. The wires are still running from the battery to the back. I want to get my Sony 10's back in there with a Jensen 600 watt - it has proper bang for what I want/need. I might have to rip the deck back out and see WTH is going on. On a side note, I'd had some issues lately with my starter, alternator and battery. I just installed a new starter and a AC Delco battery for my car.

well, first thing is that most headunits are at full volume with their internalv amps at about the 1 o'clock position or like 30 of 50 or so, if you are turning it way up you may be overplaying the amp. the only other reason for it cutting out is it's not getting a good enough supply of power - the power or ground wire.

Basically, I want to be able to turn the deck almost all the way up and bump out without this stupid deck turning off all the time like it does. |

the metal cage that the radio mounts to is most likely not grounded at all, if that's where you put the ground wire, it is probably drawing ground from the radio antenna.

When I get in there, any suggestions what metal is suitable for proper groundage?

any structural support .... just loosen a bolt and put the wire underneath it

I'll try that when I get in there (tomorrow, hopefully). I'll see what I can see.
