GM says clean out a fule tank with Water?
I am looking at my 1997 Service Manual from GM. On page 6E-450, "Fuel System Cleaning," it says, "6. Flush the fuel tank with hot water."
For years, I thought even a little water in the fuel tank would be bad. It adds, "7. Pour the water out..." Is a little water OK for a car? I'm just kind of surprised that they would say water to clean out a fuel tank. Thank you, Chris.

Re: GM says clean out a fule tank with Water?
You clean the tank with it out of the car. You also dry it thoroughly. Therefore, at the time you put it back in the car it will have no water in it.

Also removes the fumes for a safer repair.

No, it just says, "poor it out..." Nothing about drying it.
Chris.

service manual aren't always really clear.. And in most cases are used by Mechanics with a pretty good understanding of cars/trucks and their related systems..
Fuel and water don't mix, so I would be sure to allow the tank to dry before reinstalling.. |

Re: GM says clean out a fule tank with Water?
While it is good to get almost all the water out, remember that with the alcohol content of gasoline these days, the "up to 10%" addition of alcohol will absorb the water within limits.
