Need info on burning a new chip for the 4.6

Has anyone out there tried too burn a chip or re-map the computer to get more H P out of the 4.6. I have been to the Dyno and come up with 290 +/- H P and several people have told me that you can program/burn a chip and increase the H P. I think my chip is a Diaplo(not sure about the spelling).

Re: Need info on burning a new chip for the 4.6

You probably have a "Diablo" chip. Superchips is local here in Orlando and I let them use my 5.4L F150 to work on a tune for it and in return I got a free handheld tuner. I thought it was a waste of time. The difference was not worth it and I think in a racing application I'd be worried about reliability. The only applications where I've seen big increases are those with forced induction. I've owned an '03 and '04 Cobra and those cars could make use of tuning with extra boost. You can get more hp from your engine but is the 15-20 hp worth the risk of detonation? You're not talking 40 or 50 hp with this. The gains are minimal.

Dirty Dawg, have a look at this link for Superchips on page 5 and 6. The 4.6L is showing between 9 and 15 rwhp. I think stickers are worth about that much hp. I'd just buy better tires.

Before you do anything remove the chip and try and start the car. If the car wont start put the chip back in and try to start. If the car now starts the chip is to by pass the anti-theft system. It took me a long time to find out what the chip was for. Since these cars used the standard Ford products this how they did the theft bypass system. Don't loose the chip.

Interesting. my car had a key stuffed under the dash, i thought that was to "bypass" the alarm!

290whp is not bad for a 4.6L! I was guessing they were closer to 270-280
