Transmission interchangable

I have a 98 S-10 Blazer ZR-2 the tranny is about to go out. Want to know if a 4l60e from a 98 fullsize tahoe will work they are both 4x4 , would like to have it rebuilt but money is tight and I have this tranny already. Any info would be helpfull Thanks

If both 4L60E - 4W they should bolt up and fit in there.
A transmission from a V8 has more clutches in clutch pack and converter may be heaver inside thsn a V6 transmission.
Main thing to check is computer to valve body wiring.

Re: Transmission interchangable

well i feel kinda dumb thank you though for your info, I am going to check the electrical plugs today if it ever stops raining. So if I am understanding you correctly if the connector will plug in than every thing should be okay. If the convertor is heavier than my v6 one is what will that effect.

Plug in plugin in does not help.
The valve body have to have the same wiring combination.
Same year should be same but you need to check the wiring for both transmissions.

You need to get a wiring diagram for both transmission's and see it they are the same and use the same solenoids.

Re: Transmission interchangable

Yes they WILL interchange with the exception of the torque converter they are different stall. Make sure you use the bell housing AND extension housing from the S-10

The V6 has a higher stall to help with the lack of HP The V8 one would still work but you will loose some your pep. On these transmission the clutch packs are the same from 4.3L to 5.0/5.7L. So you will not be gaining any durability

One last thing you might need to change over your cooling line fittings if they are not the same style. Also don't try and unplug the neural safety switch just back out the 2 13mm bolts or you will wreck the switch.
