2003 4.7L Quad Cab Dakota stalling

2003 Dakota Quad Cab with 4.7L
Tach goes up and down while idling and occasionly stalls out. Runs fine on the highway.
It is not throwing any codes. Sat in parking lot and watched idle go up and down. Suggestions? Is there an idler sensor or something?

Throttle position sensor could be bad. you can check this by using a multimeter to make sure the resistance goes up and down evenly with no flat spots or open loops.

Also could be the Idle Air Control Valve. these can be cleaned usually with some intake cleaner by spraying it with short bursts into the IAC valve hole.

Re: 2003 4.7L Quad Cab Dakota stalling

Mechanic replaced IAC valve. Pulled out of the garage parking lot and it stalled. I went and bought a new idler control. Running better. Has not stalled. Occasionaly still runs a little rough while idling. Alot better than before though. It isn't stalling anymore. Not sure how to completely get rid of the rough idle.
