Stiff gas pedal?
'98 Regal LS...
Is it me, or does anyone find the gas pedal on these cars really... unusually... stiff? (no pun intended) When driving, my foot gets fatigued out after a while... Could I need a new cable? |

Re: Stiff gas pedal?
You can try lubing the accelerator cable with spray lithium grease. Also, the butterfly plate in the throttle body may need cleaning. Carbon builds up on it. The gas pedals in my LS and GS work fine.

Re: Stiff gas pedal?
The throttle body has already
been serviced by my mechanic, due to idling problems... I just got done pulling the throttle body apart.. The butterfly plate looks clean. Now when I grease the cable, should I pull out the whole cable itself? If so, how would I do such a task? (FYI, she has 195k on her) Thanks for the reply! Re: Stiff gas pedal?
I noticed my 99 LS which I picked up about 3 weeks ago also has a stiff gas pedal... mileage is 161K miles.
Looking in the engine compartment, it appears that the cable is "sticking". If I move the throttle by hand it seems ok, but with the gas pedal it feels hard. I've been doing other things to it which I feel are higher priority, but I'll get to the cable in due time. |
