I have a 2001 ZX3 that has been sitting around since February and have only taken it out for a ride about 8 times since then........Today i started her up and took her for a drive to experience my RPM's going high but not the speed of the car as i accelerated.....After a few minutes i smelled smoke......parked the car and their was smoke coming up from below the motor......WTF??

Does the trans have any fluid in it? Check that first. Maybe it leaked out.

If you have an AT it could have blown a seal and gotten onto a hot exhaust pipe like cruzininmyfocus says or if you have the MT the clutch could have gotten contaminated with oil and could have been slipping enough to cause the smoke due to friction.

I have an automatic tranny and the fluid is both full and clear as i changed the tranny fluid and filter in it 3 times since owning the car.
